Liceo Scienze Umane
Liceo delle Scienze Umane “E. Gianturco” is a Public High School of Human Sciences, Economics and Sport. It is set in Potenza, the Capital City of the Basilicata Region, in the south of Italy.
The school was founded in 1927 under the name of Istituto Magistrale «E. Gianturco», afterwards renamed Liceo Socio-Psico-Pedagogico. Today’s name «Liceo delle Scienze Umane» is recent. The school is hosted in a modern building, which was built in 1992.
The school, located close to the town centre, can be easily reached by bus, coach or train. The majority of our students are commuters and come from villages or small towns situated nearby Potenza.
The school is widely open to teaching innovation and interaction with the local, national and international community.
We strongly believe in the importance of international mobility. As a matter of fact, the school has been involved in numerous mobility projects since 2011 (Comenius, Youth in Action and Erasmus+)
All our students (about 1,000) are required to demonstrate personal commitment and active participation in the school life, in order to achieve significant goals in their school path and future career.
The school atmosphere is friendly but rigorous, as it aims to contribute to students’ personal growth and development. They are constantly supported by our 95 qualified teachers.
Our educational offer includes three different five-year courses: Human Sciences, Sport and Economic-Social.
The school year is divided into 2 terms:
- Autumn term (from September to January)
- Spring term (from February to June)
The school year usually starts in the middle of September and finishes in the middle of June. Classes are from Monday to Saturday from 8.00 to 12.00/13.00
Yet, the school is open in the afternoons as well and provides a large variety of extracurricular activities and options.
